Vietnamese eats in Auckland

18 Jan

Just met some friends at Hansan in Mt Wellington for a quick, tasty Vietnamese fix. Fresh prawn spring rolls with their tangy dipping sauce and a huge bowl of vermicelli with salad and wee deep-fried spring rolls – yum.

Hansan is good enough, but I do miss Thang Long, a Vietnamese restaurant which held fort on Otahuhu’s Atkinson Ave for a few years. I can’t remember the name of the woman who owned and ran Thang Long, but she was always wandering round chatting to her customers. I recall she had originally opened Two Monkeys in Dominion Road before selling it, and had taken over Thang Long to help out a family member. I’d love to know if she is still in the restaurant trade somewhere, as her food was a few cuts above any other Vietnamese I’ve eaten in Auckland. Anyone know?

I know there are some other Vietnamese eateries in Otahuhu but I don’t know whether they’re any good – any comments would be appreciated.
